PSNI

Transforming Policing in Northern Ireland

CHALLENGE

Help PSNI better serve the citizens of Northern Ireland.

The digital revolution has transformed the world of policing. Not only has it changed how police officers do their day to day jobs, but has had a monumental impact on how communities engage with them – now, a quick Tweet can be just as effective than a trip to your local station.

In 2015, the Police Service of Northern Ireland chose Made to Engage as its technical partner; to embark on a pivotal new digital project to help them better serve the citizens of Northern Ireland.

CONTENT MANAGEMENT

Empowering the people

As a priority, we worked with the PSNI to create a mobile-enabled website with a highly secure crime reporting application. The ensured local people could report crimes safely, with confidence that their privacy was not only respected but guaranteed.

Quick exit buttons and pages with a low trace in browser history are just two of the minor details to make a major impact on members of the community who are vulnerable and in need a safe way to reach out for help.

TECH

Technology that Tranforms

The implementation of Episerver CMS has transformed and enhanced the PSNI’s internal processes, also. With a team of over 50 content producers, operating as the Digital Hub and made up of police officers and community support assistants, creating and publishing content can happen quickly and effectively without delay.

RESULT

  • The website has been used by over 500,000 citizens in Northern Ireland
  • Half of these users come via mobile to the site
  • Non-emergency online crime reporting has increased by over 1000%

This project as been lauded as one of the most innovative and expertly designed experiences in the UK, with a number of awards now under its belt for Best Public Sector Website and more across the UK and Ireland.

UNLIMITED POTENTIAL

With Belfast as our HQ, this project was a particularly rewarding one for the team at Made to Engage - seeing how working with the PSNI on their digital strategy has impacted real people, we continue to witness the ever-growing potential technology has to offer the world of policing, and how, with our capabilities to innovate and deliver, we can support the PSNI to excel even further.
