There are more than 60 people based at Made to Engage’s headquarters in Belfast and at our offices in London and Dublin. Each one of them hails from a different background, has their own distinct personality and their own unique passions.
As a collaborative business, it’s the vibrancy of those backgrounds, personalities and passions that make Made to Engage what it is. We aim to engage, motivate and support our employees so they can perform to the best of their abilities. When our staff are happy and healthy, they produce truly innovative work that helps our clients achieve outstanding digital success.
Wellbeing has always a big part of our strategy and daily culture. But as Ireland’s fastest-growing agency, our team is constantly expanding and we need to ensure that our approach to wellness is evolving to reflect our changing workplace dynamics.
Our aim is to continue the focus on company culture and employee wellbeing that Made to Engage has, so our people continue to love coming to work and feel empowered to achieve.
The Made to Engage culture is one of learning and improving. We believe this creates a positive space for innovation within the agency. If an employee has a success, we’ll do something as simple as sharing their good work with the whole squad or encouraging them to discuss it in one of our weekly Team Talks. When addressing a challenge, we'll discuss how we can all contribute to the solution and use it to grow as a team and learn from the experience.
The Made to Engage Graduate Academy is one way we get involved with our local communities. It’s a great opportunity for young people to develop the skills to pursue a career in digital. We also support our employees with a training fund so they can continue to be the best they can be. And although the tech industry is still a male-dominated one, women now make up a greater proportion of our workforce than ever. We’re committed to making Made to Engage an even more inclusive agency in the future.
At Made to Engage, we want to see results that have an impact not just on our clients’ revenue but on society as a whole. Our team are regularly involved in fundraising and we let them nominate their own charities – last year we raised over £8000 for Mencap with skydives, abseils, cook-offs and more. This year we’ll be raising money for Aware NI, Marie Curie and the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. Giving staff one day off a year to volunteer for charity is another way we give back.
We encourage staff to stay active with a cycle to work scheme and a gym opposite our Belfast HQ. Our offices have free deliveries of fresh fruit twice weekly, making it easier for people to make a healthy choice. And we’ve taken steps to break the stigma around mental health. We provide a confidential helpline, Inspiring Workplaces, so anyone who needs it can speak to a counsellor. Equally, where colleagues have opened up about their experiences of mental health, the business has supported them.
Agencies can be fast-paced environments – deadlines are often tight and our team need to be agile to meet them. Along the way, we try to enjoy ourselves as much as possible, whether that’s quiz nights, movie nights, pizza lunches, summer BBQs or team-building trips. Our ideas tool on the Made to Engage intranet allows people to quickly and easily make suggestions on how to improve the company and ensures that everyone’s ideas are taken on board.
Parents are a key part of our business and it is important that our culture reflects this. Made to Engage offers assistance with childcare expenses through childcare voucher schemes. We lighten the load for parents in other ways too. We have policies such as flexible working to allow them to adapt their working routine around childcare commitments. And we encourage parents and prospective parents to meet and share experiences and ideas to support parents in the workplace.
There’s plenty of scope for wellbeing to get even bigger and better at Made to Engage. There’s still a lot to do, but togetherness is part of our DNA. As we grow, we’ll be taking a fearless approach to ensuring we adapt as the needs of our people evolve.
